the Art of Team Building

Cotswold Conference Centre - Case Study

The following case study outlines the history behind the initial requirements for the Cotswold Conference Centre and the subsequent design, development and ultimate implementation of Eye Openers on site.

Background: Shared Vision has enjoyed a relationship with the Cotswold Conference Centre (CCC) that stretches back over the past 10 years. The CCC offers accommodation and training facilities and is set in over 300 acres in an area of outstanding beauty on the edge of the Cotswold Escarpment over looking the Vale of Evesham. It is an ideal location for groups wishing to undertake leadership and team-building exercises using experiential activities.

Customers using the factilities often asked if there were any leadership or team-building activities that they could undertake which did not require any external support and could be paid for on a "per" usage basis. Although Shared Vision supported the CCC in terms of designing and delivering team-building programmes a gap existed and we came up with a recommendation which felt would bridge the gap. This was therefore the design, development and overall implementation of the Eye Openers range of products.

. working with a premier conference centre in the UK, Shared Vision worked to respond to a need ...
. for clients who use the accommodation and facilities at the centre and who wish to use one or two experinetial activities as ice breakers to enliven their programe or simply as relaxtion
. opportunities for an enhanced learning experience
. for clients whose interest or budget would not support an outside agency to facilitate team development specifically for them, or
. to attract new clients as users of the facility
. an alternative means of fulfilling a common customer

In order for our ideas to be accepted we had to meet a number of key design criteria, activities had to be:
. in harmony with the surrounding of the facility
. easy for a client facilitator to run without assistance
. varied so that they do not become repetitive even if all elements are used
. self-sufficient requiring little support from the Conference Centre other than the handing over of a pre-prepared pack and booking a time on task. This allows trainers to run them at short notice
. aesthetically pleasing so that they will enhance the facility for other users
. intriguing so that other users of the facility will be motivated to enquire about their use
. low maintenance and to last for 5-10 years
. designed to have a minimal health & safety risk assessment. Health & safety issues must be fully covered by the supporting materials
. short enough in duration so that they can be conveniently slotted into a program
. and ... must produce a positive revenue stream

The result is now available to premier conference centres globally.
